Fortunately, there are countless options to choose from in Upper Austria and you can switch between them. In summer, the Danube and Lake Attersee or Lake Traunsee beckon with cool water, while in autumn there are cycling and hiking trails to discover. Websites such as Camping Info help you find the ideal campsite for you in just a few clicks.

WILD CAMPing IN upper austria

Since July 2021, a new tourism law has been in force in Upper Austria, which leaves the decision on the ban on camping outside campsites partly to the municipalities. In principle, however, wild camping is now prohibited in Upper Austria and must be reported. So if you want to set up camp in Upper Austria away from the numerous campsites, you need to find out very carefully about the regulations of the individual municipalities in order to possibly find a pitch in the wilderness.

Upper Austria Offers You Countless Possibilities For Your Camping Trip!

What attractions are there in upper austria?

Upper Austria not only offers scenic highlights such as numerous crystal-clear lakes, majestic forests and breathtaking peaks, but is also an ideal holiday destination in terms of historical gems and adventure excursions. While Linz boasts contemporary museums and the impressive Linz Castle, the rest of the province offers countless other fascinating sights. We have collected our top 5 excursion destinations in Upper Austria for you here:

Hallstatt: Internationally renowned for its magnificent panoramic views, the picturesque little town on Lake Hallstatt is very popular with tourists. And rightly so - the centrepiece of the UNESCO World Heritage Site Hallstatt-Dachstein/Salzkammergut is the epitome of Austrian natural idyll. If the crowds in the town get too much for you, you can admire the action from the Skywalk World Heritage View high above Hallstatt and enjoy a breathtaking view.

Kaiservilla Bad Ischl: The alleged favourite residence of Emperor Franz Josef is an architectural masterpiece and still gives an idea of the former splendour that it was filled with in the days of the monarchy. A stroll through the extensive park is a wonderful way to relax and be transported back in time.

5fingers viewing platform: Just under half an hour from the mountain station of the Dachstein Krippenstein cable car, you can enjoy an unrivalled view (if you don't suffer from a fear of heights). High above the Salzkammergut, you can add a little thrill to a relaxing hike.

Traunsee & Attersee: Upper Austria can lay claim to two records when it comes to lakes: Attersee, the largest lake located entirely in Austria, and Traunsee, the deepest lake in Austria. In other words, ideal conditions for sailors, swimmers, divers and all those who like to relax on the shore.

Gleinkersee high ropes course: The forest high ropes course provides a little adrenaline kick in the midst of holiday relaxation with suspension bridges, a Fyling Fox zipline and climbing sections between the trees.

So there is plenty to discover and experience in Upper Austria, regardless of whether you see yourself more as a sports, nature or culture lover. If that's not enough for you, Austria has eight other federal states that are perfect for a holiday in a campervan. But you can just as easily plan a detour or a longer tour through neighbouring European countries, immerse yourself in different cultures and experience everything our continent has to offer.
